“Lily?” His strong hands gently cupped her shoulders.
“Don’t, please don’t.”
She pulled away, fully intending to flee. Her resistance shattered, and she turned into his embrace. It was too late to escape. Pressing against his strength, she wound her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. His erection prodded her stomach, and she moaned. A heavy groan filled his throat as he lifted her from her feet. He kicked the bag aside as he sat her on the counter.
“I can’t wait,” he growled. His flaring aura spiraled with colors she couldn’t name. She caught her breath. One hand burrowed through her hair, keeping her still as he stepped between her thighs. “You’re all I could think about all day.”
Clasping her bottom, he slid her to the edge of the counter. With his lips claiming her mouth, he unbuttoned her slacks, than lifted her slightly to push them down and off.
The cold surface only made her more aware of his scorching heat. His rough denim pants scraped her inner thighs in contrast with the silky hair under her palms. Her pulse leaped, and she gasped. His male scent mixed with hints of the wild forest filled her nostrils. When his fingertip explored the heated moisture gathering at her juncture, she tightened her thighs around his hips.

Excerpt:

“I’m leaving. I really shouldn’t be around you anymore.”

“You’re attracted to me too. Why can’t you admit it?” It wasn’t really a question though. He knew. He braced my waist and drew me toward him. “Oh, wait. I know. If you admit you desire a half-breed, then you’re somehow admitting you’re inadequate. Right?”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied. He couldn’t be more right.

“Because you believe half-breeds are inferior and not worth an Angel’s time or affection. Is that it, Abigail?”

His lips were so close to mine, his warm breath lingered at my nose, reminding me of the delicious taste of his mouth. I sniffed the aroma in and gulped it down. Pathetic. Really, really pathetic.

With whatever brain cells I had left I muttered, “I have to go. Now.”

“Of course.”

Before I knew what was happening next I was being escorted to the elevator. His hand was on my back as he gently guided me along the hardwood floor. I couldn’t hear his shoes but mine were squeaking noisily, covering the sound of Harley’s continuous keyboard tapping.

Such a stupid thing to concentrate on, Abby.

He pressed the down button and turned me by my shoulders so he could look at my face. “Be careful,” he whispered. “Peter Piper isn’t dangerous by himself but he’s idiotic enough to follow someone who is. Do you understand?”

“Why don’t you give me more information then?” I was surprised he’d come to that conclusion by simply looking at Piper’s file. What kind of notes did this guy take? And how could I get my hands on them?

“Have dinner with me tonight and we can discuss it.”

“I wouldn’t even if I could.”

“You’re working?”

I didn’t answer. I may have wanted to lick whipped cream off his body but I didn’t trust him to know any more about me than he already did.

“Lunch tomorrow, then?”

“Not going to happen.”

He drew in an annoyed breath and pulled a business card out of thin air. “Take this. Call me if you change your mind, day or night. Or if you feel like you might be attacked again.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “What would you do about it?”

“Prevent it from happening, of course.”

Examining Paranormal Romance

Being a person who loves to over-analyze any given situation, I thought it would be fun to pick apart the paranormal romance genre as a whole. So excuse me while I give into the left side of my brain (which, by the way, battles tirelessly with the right side of my brain on a daily basis).

To begin with, the paranormal romance genre is so broad it could be split up into an infinite number of new genres. Why do I think this? Because the word “paranormal” has such a broad meaning.

According to http://www.dictionary.com/, paranormal means:

–adjective

of or pertaining to the claimed occurrence of an event or perception without scientific explanation, as psychokinesis, extrasensory perception, or other purportedly supernatural phenomena.

That’s a pretty general definition. To get a better idea, all I have to do is look at the list of authors who contribute to this blog. Each brings their own imagination to the paranormal romance genre to create stories about:

-Time travel
-Ghosts
-Werewolves
-Vampires
-Shape shifters
-Mythology
-Psychic abilities
-Angels
-Demons
-Futuristic space travel
-Witches, Sorcerers, and Warlocks
-I’m sure I’m missing several so go ahead and shout it out if you think of more. The left side of my brain welcomes it.

Of these, there are immeasurable possibilities to create even more types of supernatural phenomena. Why? Because paranormal fiction has no guidelines, no boundaries, and absolutely no limit to the worlds an author can create.

Charlaine Harris, one of my favorite authors, gives a perfect example with her Southern Vampire Series. She’s built a vivid parallel universe where vampires exist alongside humans. To add to that, she went on to bring in shapeshifters, werewolves, fairies, and witches. Her books are rich with mystery and the unknown, and it keeps me turning the pages and wanting more.

I suppose these are the reasons I love to both read and write paranormal romance and fantasy. There’s no end to what my imagination can come up with… which gives the left side of my brain a reason to relax and allow the right side of my brain to run away with the ghosts, angels, demons, or whatever else I want to write about that day.

Things Unexplained

I looked up the definition for paranormal in Webster's Dictionary. It read, "of or pertaining to events or perceptions occurring without scientific explanation, as clairvoyance or extrasensory perception."


Today, clairvoyants are used to help find victims and solve crimes. It wasn't long ago that the mere thought of using someone with supernatural powers in police work was laughable. We're not laughing now, and many victim's families have been grateful for their powers.


I can't say that everything we hear about ghosts and other supernatural events are true, or that what happens couldn't be caused by something in nature, but to me the stories are interesting. Some afternoons I find myself in front of the television watching "Hauntings." It's downright scary and triggers all sorts of story ideas in my head.


Of course, the paranormal genre in writing isn't confined to what I've discussed above. We have stories about vampires, werewolves, zombies, and the list goes on. I doubt anyone really believes in such entities, but it sure is fun to pretend. It doesn't take much for a good writer to get me all wrapped up in their stories and in that case, I do believe, for a time anyway. It's an escape from the ordinary and oh so much fun -- or not -- more frightening. Pure entertainment.


My paranormal stories are mainly time travels. Wouldn't it be fun to travel back to a previous time period, or for that matter, move forward? Time travels are a way to experience history using modern perceptions.

In my contemporary stories, I occasionally like to add a touch of the paranormal.

A whisper of something touched his face. His eyes flew open as a smoke ring erupted from an invisible source aimed at his face. It was followed by another and another. Lucas lay still and watched the perfectly formed circles reach him and disintegrate. Maybe he was still asleep. He sat up in the bed and the display continued. A shiver ran up his spine. Sam was the only person he knew who could blow smoke rings like what he saw.

"Sam, is that you?"

His answer came in the form of a smoke ring that hovered in the air and pulsed. Guess that’s a yes. "Guess you’re pretty pissed about my and Gail’s problems." The smoke grew so thick Lucas coughed. "Yeah, don’t blame you. Wish I could say I’d fix it, but don’t know if it’s possible." He waited for another response but didn’t get one.

Lucas woke coughing. Smoke, he was choking on smoke. The whole thing had been a dream and the house was on fire. He lunged out of bed and raced down the hall to Gail’s room, and then realized there was no smoke. Just outside her door, he stopped to think. Chief would’ve sensed the fire and alerted them. He must have been dreaming. Unable to return to bed without checking on Gail, he quietly opened the door and peeked in. Chief lifted his head, and his tail thumped the floor. A sigh of relief rushed from Lucas’s chest. All appeared well in there.

He closed the door and returned to Sam’s room. Stale cigarette smoke met him as he entered. Back in bed, he pondered what had happened. Had it been a dream? Seconds before he dozed off again, a small smoke ring danced before his face, and then disappeared.

INTRODUCTION: HYWELA LYN

Hi, this is Hywela Lyn, I'm so thrilled to be part of this great new Blog, with so many wonderful paranormal authors. A little bit about myself -

I was born and lived most of my life in Wales, although I am currently living in a small village in England. My first two names are Hywela Lyn, which I use as my penname, although I've always been called just 'Lyn' by my family and friends. For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed reading and writing Science Fiction/Fantasy and Adventure stories, and the occasional Western - always with a strong romantic element. Although most of my stories tend to be futuristic, the worlds I create are usually untainted by crowded cities and technology, embracing the beauty and wildness of nature. My characters often have to fight the elements and the terrain itself.

My first novel, 'Starquest', a futuristic romance was released on 29th August and will be in print next week on 5th Decemeber! The sequel, 'Children of the Mist' is contracted with the same publisher and my novella about the Greek Muse, Terpsichore is available now as an e-book and also as one of three stories in Book III of The Wild Rose Press's 'Song Of The Muses' series.

I love all animals, especially horses and enjoy Western riding. I have two horses, two ferrel cats and a 'rescued' Jack Russell terrier called Bouncer. Oh yes, and a long suffering husband called Dave!

Introduction - Linda LaRoque

I started writing in 1991. My first book wasn't published until 2007. This year I've had one short story and one novel published. In 2009 I'll have two, possible three novels and one short story published. It has been a thrilling ride and it's so rewarding to see my dream of becoming a published author come true.

I've lived most of my life in Texas so most of my stories are set there. I particularly love West Texas, the desert landscapes, plant life, and the people.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I'd ever write something paranormal. But, I wrote a time travel, loved it, and now have written three more. I even find myself occasionally adding paranormal happenings in my contemporary western romances. My newest release with Champagne Books, Forever Faithful, has a ghost.

Hi all!

I’m happy to be a part of this wonderful group of authors!

My name is Viola Estrella. I live in the Denver, Colorado area with my husband and sons. I write both paranormal romance and urban fantasy.
